Fall Car Care Tips

The summer is over, the kids are back in school, and the evenings are getting cooler and cooler. Now is the perfect time to take advantage of a change in seasons and prepare your vehicle for the rest of fall and the upcoming winter season.

Here are some tips for the perfect fall care for your vehicle:

Engine Performance
If your engine is running a little rough (rough idling, stalling, etc.), then make sure to give your vehicle a good tune up. Cold weather will only make these problems worse.

Fuel
Add fuel de-icer to your fuel every month and keep your gas tank above half full. This will help moisture from forming and freezing in your fuel line.

Oil
Make sure your oil and filter are clean, changed and ready to go.

Cooling System
Make sure your coolant has a 50/50 anti-freeze to water mix and is ready to tackle the colder months.

Heater/Defroster
Make sure your heater and windshield defroster are in working order.

Windshield Wipers
Check your wipers and replace if they are cracked or not working properly.

Battery
Make sure your battery is clean and has a full charge.

Lights
Clean all outside lights and lenses with a damp towel. Also, make sure all lights are working and replace any burned out bulbs.

Exhaust System
Check your exhaust system for any leaks. Excess exhaust in your vehicle can cause serious health concerns.

Tires
Check all tires for wear and cracks to make sure they are ready for the colder, wetter months. Rotate or replace if necessary.

Emergencies
Make sure you have an emergency kit in the trunk ready to go when you need it. Include gloves, boots, blankets, flares, a small shovel, sand, tire chains, a flashlight, some snacks, and a cell phone.

These simple tips will make sure you and your vehicle are ready to get through the upcoming colder months. If you need help, just stop on by your nearest New England Jiffy Lube. Our qualified technicians would love to help you and your vehicle prepare for autumn.
